Market Chatter: Exxon Mobil's Suit Against Environmentalists Dismissed by Texas Judge

Exxon Mobil's (XOM) defamation lawsuit against environmental groups was dismissed by a federal judge in Texas, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The judge, however, allowed a related case against California Attorney General Rob Bonta to continue, the report added.

Exxon had accused the groups of trying to sabotage its recycling business in collusion with Australian mining magnate Andrew Forrest, according to the report.

The dispute began in 2024, when Bonta sued Exxon in California, alleging the company misled the public about plastics recycling. Exxon responded with a countersuit in Texas, claiming Bonta and several nonprofits were acting on behalf of Forrest, the report said.

Exxon Mobil didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
