O-I Glass Shares Fall on 1Q EPS Pressure

Shares of O-I Glass were on the decline after the glass-container maker said it expects additional pressure on adjusted earnings per share for the first quarter due to increased competition in Southern Europe.

The stock fell about 13% to $12.92 a share before Wednesday's market close. Despite the intraday decline, shares are up 13% over the past 12 months.

O-I Glass maintained its EPS guidance for the full year, but said it expects first-quarter adjusted EPS to be below the 12%-to-16% threshold of full-year adjusted EPS that it previously guided for.

The company is experiencing softer demand and increased competition, as well as some short-term supply chain costs in Europe, mainly in Italy, Truist analysts Michael Roxland said in a note.

"At the same time, OI is incurring greater logistics and supply chain costs in Europe as it closes three factories," he continued. "Recall that OI tends to embed some level of conservatism into its forecasts given the fluid backdrop, primarily due to strong cost take-out."
