Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google has been summoned to a hearing by Italy's communications authority over the use of AI in showing Italian-language editorial content in its search engine results, the regulator said Friday.

The authority said in a statement that the order followed a report by the Italian Federation of Newspaper Publishers and recommendations "concerning the AI overviews and AI mode services implemented by Google in the search engine," according to a translation of the text.

Both Google and the federation, along with other interested parties, are being asked to appear at a hearing that will convene in the coming days, the regulator said.

Google did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
