1139 ET - Loblaw's T&T banner is Canada's largest and most successful Asian grocer and its first two U.S. stores have generated strong early results. CIBC's Mark Petrie says in a report that the "concept offers meaningful differentiation from peers and will be well-received in new markets," with potential to grow T&T's network to over 200 stores generating up to C$20 billion in sales in the U.S. Currently, the store count is up to 38 from 18 when it first acquired T&T in 2009, with the first store opening in the U.S. in late 2024 in Seattle, and a second store late last year. It will take some time, however. "We expect a measured approach to growth, and estimate that T&T U.S. will remain dilutive to Loblaw's Ebitda until 2029 (at 18 stores)," he says.
