Thomson Reuters has appointed Gary Bischoping to the role of chief financial officer, succeeding Mike Eastwood, who is retiring.

Bischoping brings to the Toronto-based content and technology company more than 30 years of global finance leadership experience, most recently as a partner at private equity firm Hellman & Friedman.

Prior to that, he held CFO roles at Finastra and Varian Medical Systems and spent more than 17 years at Dell Technologies in senior finance leadership roles, the company said Monday.

Bischoping is set to take over the role effective May 8.

Eastwood's retirement is part of a planned transition, Thomson Reuters said, and he will become the chairman of the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company. He will also remain with the company as an adviser to Chief Executive Steve Hasker.

Thomson Reuters' stock has been rocked last month after artificial intelligence-driven fears sent jitters throughout the markets and drove down software stocks across the board.
