Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy company Norsk Hydro is seeking more information as it assesses the implications of QatarEnergy's decision to stop the production of gas and products including aluminum in the state of Qatar.

QatarEnergy, the state-owned petroleum company of Qatar, on Monday stopped production of liquefied natural gas after attacks against its energy facilities, and on Tuesday said it is halting the production of some downstream products in the country, including urea, polymers, methanol, aluminum, among others.

QatarEnergy supplies gas to Qatalum, a 50/50 joint venture between Norsk Hydro and Qatar Aluminum Manufacturing Company. Qatar Aluminum Manufacturing Company is majority owned by QatarEnergy.

"The specific implications for aluminum production at Qatalum are currently unclear and Hydro is seeking to obtain more information," the Norwegian company said.

Qatalum generated an adjusted net income of 1.3 billion Norwegian kroner ($135.7 million) for Norsk Hydro in 2025.
