Australian Consumer Confidence Falls Amid Economic Uncertainty

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian consumer confidence fell 3.1 points to 77.1 in the week of Feb. 23 to March 1, ANZ reported Tuesday.

The four-week moving average eased 0.9 points to 77.8 points.

"Consumer confidence remains at its lowest level since December 2023, on a four-week moving average basis," ANZ Economist Sophia Angala said.

Weekly inflation expectations inched up to 5.3% from 5.2%, while the current financial condition indicator for 12 months fell 1.9 points to 71.9. The future financial conditions for the next 12 months decreased to 84 points from 88.

Short-term economic confidence for the next year fell 5 points to 70.5, while medium-term economic confidence for the next five years decreased to 79.7 points from 81.6.

The "time to buy a major household item" subcategory fell 2.9 points to 79.3.
