JD Vance Says War Will Not Be Long -- WSJ

In his first public comments since the Iran strikes began, Vice President JD Vance said that President Trump would avoid a long, sustained conflict with Iran. "The president has clearly defined what he wants to accomplish," Vance said in an interview with Jesse Watters on Fox News, saying that it is to eliminate Iran's capability to build a nuclear weapon.

Vance spoke frequently of the U.S. prioritizing diplomacy before the strikes. Last Friday, he met with Oman's foreign minister, Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi. On Monday, he said many of the talks to avoid strikes had been "almost comical."

Of how long the conflict would last, Vance did not set a timeline but said it would be short. "There's just no way Donald Trump is going to allow this country to get into a multi-year conflict with no clear end in sight and no clear objective," he said.
