U.S. Consulate in Dubai Is a Hub for Iran-Focused Diplomats -- WSJ

The American consulate in Dubai has long served as a hub for Iran-focused U.S. diplomats, serving as a sort of shadow embassy to Tehran. A drone struck the parking lot near the U.S. embassy, according to a U.S. official and Dubai's government media office. The U.S. hasn't had diplomatic relations with Iran since students stormed the embassy in Tehran and took hostages in 1979.

Dubai has a large and well-established Iranian population that for decades made up a big part of the emirate's merchant class. Iranian banks line Dubai's waterfronts, and one of its oldest healthcare institutions is the ornate Iranian Hospital, built on land donated by the country's former ruler.
