Vail Resorts Seen Lowering Fiscal-Year Forecast -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1338 ET - It's not a question of if Vail Resorts will lower its fiscal-year guidance, but by how much, according to Truist Securities analysts. The analysts say snowfall in Colorado and Utah has not significantly improved since the company provided an update in January, when it said fewer skiers had visited its mountains during the ski season so far. "Historically, these are the types of low-snowfall seasons that have thrown a ski resort into bankruptcy," the analysts say, however they note there are several factors helping Vail only cut its forecast to just below the low end of its initial range, pointing to greater geographic diversification and more of its annual revenue locked in via season passes. "If there is any solace with the guide cut, it is hardly unexpected," they say. (kelly.cloonan@wsj.com)
