Canada to Take Time Necessary on F-35 Order Review -- Market Talk

1346 ET - Canada's Defense Minister David McGuinty signals he's in no rush to issue a judgment on whether Ottawa intends to follow through on its previous commitment to acquire up to 88 F-35 fighter jets, made by U.S.-based Lockheed Martin. Nearly a year ago, Canada PM Mark Carney asked officials to review the order, citing the changing geopolitical landscape. Sweden's Saab has made a big push for Ottawa to buy its Gripen aircraft, including a promise of 10,000 new manufacturing jobs. Canada says Saab's pitch is under consideration. "The question of industrial benefits features large in this question," McGuinty tells reporters. "We going to take the time we need to make sure this is properly evaluated."
