0819 ET - Algoma Steel's shift to electric arc furnace production creates real strategic upside, but the path to operating leverage remains cloudy. In a report, RBC's James McGarragle says EAF "represents a strategic shift aimed at improving the cost structure," but achieving meaningful operating leverage hinges on a "substantial capacity ramp," something he says appears "uncertain absent a trade agreement or significant government/private order flow." Shares sold off Thursday, and McGarragle says the market likely reacted to lower EPS due to higher depreciation and one-time EAF conversion costs.(adriano.marchese@wsj.com)
