US Commerce Department Withdraws Proposed Rules on AI Chip Exports

The US Commerce Department rescinded draft plans to implement rules that would have added new requirements for exports of artificial-intelligence chips, Reuters reported Friday, citing a removal of a notice on the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs website.

The Trump administration proposed a draft rule to replace regulations set at the end of the previous administration, but it was pulled from the agency's website on Friday, the report said.

Trump's proposed rules included provisions requiring companies to invest in US data centers in exchange for export permits, the report said.

A US official was quoted by Reuters as saying, new proposal was "a draft and remains a draft."

The Commerce Department did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
