Alpha Generation has proposed repowering and battery projects in its response to a Consolidated Edison request for information.

AlphaGen's plans include the replacement of aging and less-efficient power-generation units on six barges at the Gowanus and Narrows Generating Stations in Brooklyn, N.Y. Three new barges would each have 273 megawatts of capacity.

In January 2024, ArcLight announced the formation of AlphaGen and said the partnership would oversee the strategic, commercial, and operational activities for ArcLight's power infrastructure portfolio and assets. In January 2025, ArcLight said the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority would invest $500 million in AlphaGen. Later in 2025, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board agreed to invest $1 billion.

Con Edison said in January that it was seeking "clean, non emitting solutions that can help meet future reliability needs in line with the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act." It seeks to address "a projected 125 megawatt reliability gap that could emerge in New York City in the summer of 2032."
