Market Chatter: Meta's Rollout of New Ray-Ban Smart Glasses in EU Hits Battery, AI Regulation, Supply Snags

Meta Platforms (META) is experiencing delays in releasing its new Ray-Ban smart glasses within the European Union due to inventory limitations alongside artificial intelligence and non-removable battery regulations, Bloomberg News reported Wednesday, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.

The company is limiting the product to the US market while it navigates regional guidelines and an upcoming 2027 mandate requiring user-replaceable batteries that could restrict internal space or reduce device operational lifespan, the news outlet reported.

Meta is negotiating with regional authorities to secure a regulatory exemption for removable batteries for wearable devices, which is the main reason why sales in the EU aren't allowed, according to the report.

Meta, which plans launch the product in the EU with EssilorLuxottica, didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
