The US Postal Service will impose an 8% surcharge on packages to account for rising fuel costs, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing two people familiar with the matter.

It's the first time the USPS has imposed such a fee to cover the cost of fuel, the report said.

The USPS didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
