Spanish airline Iberia is set to cut around 1,000 jobs after signing an agreement with unions.

The company will kick off a voluntary workforce adjustment plan that will see the progressive elimination of 996 roles by the end of 2028, an Iberia spokesperson said Tuesday. The cuts will affect ground personnel, cabin crew and pilots, the spokesperson added.

Iberia--part of International Consolidated Airlines, which also houses British Airways and Aer Lingus--employs 10,812 people, according to its website.

The Iberia spokesperson said the agreement received the support from 92% of union branches.

Chema Perez, head of the aviation sector at Iberia's largest union UGT, said the final conditions of the agreement were better for workers than those initially proposed by the company.
