Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing or TSMC (TPE:2330) received government approval to deploy its advanced 3-nanometer process at its second fab in the Japanese city of Kumamoto, Focus Taiwan reported Tuesday.
The facility, set to become operational in 2028, will produce 15,000 12-inch wafers per month. The move responds to rising global demand for AI chips, TSMC CEO C.C. Wei said.
TSMC's first Kumamoto fab, operated by JASM, focuses on 12-28nm chips for automotive and industrial sectors, the news outlet said.
