Rightmove Faces $2 Billion Lawsuit in U.K. Related to Fees

Property website Rightmove is facing a lawsuit seeking an estimated 1.5 billion pounds ($1.98 billion) in damages over allegations that it charged estate agents and property developers excessive fees.

The challenge claims that Rightmove charges subscribers unfairly to use its popular platform, according to a statement issued by law firm Scott+Scott Wednesday.

Rightmove said the claim is without merit and the company will defend itself vigorously.

James Hain-Cole, a partner at Scott+Scott, which is advising on the claim, said that the platform faces no effective competition.

"It's therefore been allowed to financially squeeze its subscribers by consistently and materially raising prices without proper justification or explanation," he said.

The suit, which was first announced in November 2025 and was filed to the Competition Appeal Tribunal on Wednesday, is being brought by Jeremy Newman, a former Competition and Markets Authority panel member, and backed by litigation funder Innsworth Capital.
