Osmond Resources (ASX:OSM) is working to advance scoping study workstreams at its Orion EU critical minerals project in Spain, setting each processing plant module at 2 million metric tonnes per year of run of mine, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.

The mining firm is aiming to become "the first EU extractor of rare earths, titanium, zirconium and hafnium" from the project, it said.

The company has sent an initial two tonnes of the planned seven tonnes of outcrop samples for processing. It is also considering downstream opportunities in standalone projects to add options to funding and partnering agreements, per the filing.

The scoping study is expected to deliver a "very low" capital expenditure outcome due to a focus on only the production of concentrates, Osmond said.

The second drilling program has been expanded to 14 drill holes and is expected to start in the coming weeks, with initial assay results expected in the current quarter.
