Market Chatter: Samsung Electronics Seeks Court Injunction to Block Possible Production Disruption by Union

Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) filed for a court injunction with the Suwon District Court earlier on Thursday to stop its union from possibly occupying key facilities and stalling production, Yonhap News said in a same-day report.

The chipmaker emphasized that its injunction bid aims to stop illegal actions and prevent operational losses, not restrict lawful union activity. The unionized workers of the firm have planned a general strike on May 21. The strike comes after wage talks between the company and its union stalled in March after both sides failed to reach an agreement on removing the cap on performance-based bonuses, the report said.

Samsung Electronics didn't immediately respond to a request from MT Newswires for comment.

Shares of the company rose more than 3% at market close.
