Roblox will pay $10 million, enhance age verification processes, and expand parental controls in an agreement with the Nevada attorney general's office.

The gaming company agreed to use facial age estimation technology and government-issued identification for age assurance, the office of Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said in a release Wednesday. Roblox also expanded parents' ability to supervise their children's activities on the platform and limit communication with adult users.

The $10 million payment will be used for platform safety education programs, according to the release. In addition, Roblox committed to spend $1 million on an online safety awareness campaign and $1.5 million on a law enforcement liaison position within the company.

Roblox also agreed not to encrypt any communication involving minors on its networks in an effort to improve law enforcement investigations into child exploitation, trafficking, and illegal and harmful content, according to the release.

Roblox confirmed the agreement in a Wednesday statement and said it was grateful to Ford for his work on online safety.

"Roblox is proud to have worked alongside Attorney General Ford to reach this landmark agreement, which builds on our work to establish a new standard for digital safety," Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman said. "This resolution creates a blueprint for how industry and regulators can work together to protect the next generation of digital citizens."

The company on Monday announced expanded parental controls as well as two new classes of accounts for users aged five to eight, and nine to 15, with restrictions to games based on content ratings.
