Market Chatter: FedEx Plans MD-11 Return to Service in May After Grounding

FedEx (FDX) is preparing to return its McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighters to service in May, aiming to reduce reliance on expensive leased aircraft after months of grounding, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

The company said it has confirmed a fix developed by Boeing (BA) but is awaiting final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration before restarting operations, according to the report.

FedEx said the grounding has hurt earnings and forced it to lease replacement aircraft, with a gradual return to service expected later this month pending regulatory approval, the report added.

FedEx didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
