Three Hawkish Dissents Signal Extent of Fed's Divisions -- Market Talk

1405 ET - The Fed's April vote is the most hawkish result for the central bank since 2024. Three officials, Beth Hammack of the Cleveland Fed, Lorie Logan of the Dallas Fed and Neel Kashkari of the Minneapolis Fed, went out of their way to vote against the Fed's policy statement, because they opposed the statement's implication that the Fed's next move is going to be a cut. Meanwhile, Fed governor Stephen Miran, the most dovish member of the Fed's policy committee, dissented for a sixth straight meeting in favor of lower rates. That makes a total of four dissents. No Fed decision has been so contentious since Oct. 6, 1992. (matt.grossman@wsj.com; @mattgrossman)
