Shares of Wabash National were lower after the company reported lower revenue and swung to a loss, citing flagging demand in the first quarter.
Shares fell 16% to $7.33 in Friday morning trading. The stock is down 16% year-to-date.
The transportation-equipment company said its first-quarter results were hit by shaky demand and challenging conditions in freight markets. Demand was particularly soft in the company's truck body business, it said.
"Freight markets were uncertain, and customers continued to act cautiously," Chief Executive Officer Brent Yeagy said. "Order patterns were uneven, asset utilization inconsistent, and capital decisions across the industry were being evaluated carefully."
Yeagy added that customer conditions and the company's visibility are improving and setting up for a constructive 2027.
The company reported a loss of $45.2 million, or $1.11 a share, compared with a profit of $230.9 million, or $5.36 a share, a year earlier.
Stripping out certain one-time items, the company reported an adjusted loss of $1.17 a share.
Net sales fell to $303.2 million, down from $380.9 million a year prior.
For the current second quarter, the company is expecting an adjusted loss between 40 cents and 60 cents a share on revenue between $380 million and $400 million.
