Amazon.com (AMZN) said Thursday that it will increase investment in products from its international stores while phasing out local fulfillment operations in Singapore, including Amazon Fresh and grocery partners in Singapore.

The company said demand for products shipped from its US, Japan and Germany stores has grown strongly, with most units sold on Amazon.sg now coming from its International Store.

Customers will still be able to shop in local currency, access local deals and use Singapore-specific Prime benefits, it said.

Amazon said the move will result in the phaseout of local fulfillment operations, including grocery services. The company added it is working with vendors and sellers on alternative ways to continue serving customers.

The restructuring will also affect a small number of roles in Amazon Singapore's stores business, it said. Amazon added that it will provide affected employees with transition support, including severance and career services.
