Marathon Petroleum's 665,000 b/d Galveston Bay, Texas, refinery on Wednesday reported a power interruption at its sulfur recovery units, while its 384,500 b/d Los Angeles refinery is scheduled for a four-day planned maintenance starting Friday, they company said in two regulatory filings.

In a filing to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Marathon said its sulfur recovery units in both East and West plants of Galveston Bay went offline overnight Wednesday due to the power issue.

According to the company, the refinery implemented a sulfur shed plan and re-routed vent streams to flare, subsequently bringing back online the sulfur recovery units and returning them to normal operations.

On Sunday, Marathon's Galveston Bay refinery also reported emissions and flaring due to leaking of a fuel gas knockout control valve.

Meanwhile, the company also said in a South Coast AQMD filing Thursday morning that the refinery plants to flare and emit contaminants between Friday and May 12 related to a planned maintenance.
