Malaysian tech firms Skyechip (KLSE:SKYECHIP), Great Asic Technology, and Oppstar (KLSE:OPPSTAR) have partnered with global semiconductor firm Arm Limited in a bid to enhance the semiconductor industry, The Star reported Monday.

The companies obtained exclusive access to Arm's computing platforms and intellectual property (IP), as well as four tokens to expedite chip development using integrated circuit (IC) design and innovation, according to the report.

The aim is to "move from our existing strengths in chip assembly, testing, and packaging to more strategic capabilities, such as IC design, IP development, research and development (R&D), and the production of high-value technology products," The Star reported citing Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

Akmal Nasrullah encouraged the firms to deliver results following the approval.

Under a partnership, the parties are looking to train 10,000 highly skilled IC design talents. 1,362 individuals are already reportedly getting trained under the Arm On-Demand Training program.
