Fire Breaks Out at PBF Chalmette, La., Refinery's Operating Unit -- OPIS

A fire broke out at an unspecified operating unit of PBF Energy's 197,000 b/d Chalmette, La., refinery located outside of New Orleans around midday Friday, the company said.

"At approximately 12:51 p.m. on Friday, May 8, a fire occurred on an operating unit at Chalmette Refining. Refinery personnel promptly responded and fence-line monitoring confirms no off-site impacts," PBF said in a post on its official Facebook post.

The company said all workers are safe and accounted for, and the St. Bernard Parish's fire department and sheriff's office are on scene assisting with its response.

PBF, which operates six U.S. refineries, also said it has notified appropriate government agencies and the cause of the accident will be investigated.

OPIS couldn't reach a PBF representative for comment at the time of publication.

Chalmette is a dual-train coking refinery capable of processing both light and heavy crude oil into gasoline, distillates and specialty chemicals. It distributes refined products locally by pipeline and through exports by vessel.
