Boeing (BA) and Toyota (TM) each donated $1 million to help fund "The Great American Road Trip," a reality-style video series starring Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and his family, The Wall Street Journal reported late Thursday.

According to the report, the series will follow the Duffys traveling across the US to mark the country's 250th anniversary, with stops including the Grand Canyon, the Liberty Bell and the Golden Gate Bridge.

The trailer shows the family traveling in a Toyota vehicle, while the series is also expected to include a visit to Boeing's 787 Dreamliner factory in South Carolina, the report said.

The project is funded through non-profit Great American Road Trip, which is backed by companies overseen by the Transportation Department, including Boeing, Toyota, United Airlines (UAL), Shell (SHEL) and Comcast (CMCSA), WSJ reported.

However, the show has drawn criticism from ethics watchdog Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which asked the Transportation Department's inspector general to investigate potential violations tied to gifts, travel and corporate sponsorships, the news outlet reported.

Boeing and Toyota did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
