China Yuchai International (CYD) launched a new internal combustion engine for heavy-duty commercial vehicles that operates entirely on ammonia, the company said Thursday.

The engine integrates a high-pressure ammonia-to-hydrogen generation system with direct injection of liquid ammonia, it said.

The technology delivers thermal efficiency comparable to advanced heavy-duty diesel engines, the company added.
