Samsonite's Shares Appear Cheap; Valuation Depressed by Hong Kong Listing -- Market Talk

Dow Jones
05/15

0609 GMT - Samsonite's shares appear cheap to Morningstar's Ivan Su, who notes the stock trades at nine times the company's projected 2026 earnings. The depressed valuation largely reflects Samsonite's Hong Kong listing, Su says in a note, as the listing sits uneasily with a business that generates most of its revenue outside China and is therefore a mismatch with its investor base. Its U.S. secondary listing targeted for this year could help to narrow the Luxembourg-based luggage company's valuation gap against U.S. peers such as VF, the analyst says. He anticipates Samsonite's multiple could rerate towards 15 times its earnings. Morningstar retains its 24.00 Hong Kong dollars fair-value estimate. Shares are up 2.6% at HK$14.40.(megan.cheah@wsj.com)
