Crypto exchange Gemini Space Station said on Thursday it has received a $100 million strategic investment from the family office of its founders, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

Winklevoss Capital Fund purchased Gemini's Class A common stock at a price of $14 per share, with the payment made in bitcoin.

Shares of Gemini surged 14% in after-hours trading. The stock has lost about 84% of its value since peaking in September, when the company made its public debut on the Nasdaq. It closed at $5.26 Thursday.

Gemini also reported a net loss of $109 million, or 93 cents a share, in the first quarter, compared with a loss of $149.3 million during the same period a year ago. Revenue increased 42% to $50.3 million from $35.3 million in the year prior.

The company reported $400,000 in first-quarter revenue from its prediction-markets platform, which has attracted about 20,000 users since debuting in December.
