New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani met on Monday with Jamie Dimon, as he seeks to tamp down the backlash to his "tax the rich" proposal that rankled many of the city's wealthy.
Mamdani, who calls himself a democratic-socialist, went to JPMorgan Chase's new headquarters at 270 Park Avenue for a noon meeting with the billionaire Dimon.
While the two would normally make an odd pairing, they both identify strongly with their connections to Queens. During the meeting, they discussed cutting government waste, the reform of state environmental reviews for building, and public-private partnerships, according to a city spokesman. The mayor toured the building with Dimon, who gave him a copy of the book "Our Towns: A 100,000-Mile Journey into the Heart of America by James and Deborah Fallows."
A spokesman for JPMorgan said the meeting was productive and focused on the city's competitiveness.
The mayor was also scheduled to meet with Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon on Monday.
Mamdani has met with other New York CEOs in recent weeks, including Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and Blackstone President Jonathan Gray. The meetings followed the backlash to a video announcing a pied-a-terre tax where Mamdani singled out Citadel CEO Ken Griffin.
One person directly familiar with the meetings said Mamdani has discussed a large real estate development in Queens with several CEOs that has been of interest to President Trump.
