Shares of Advance Auto Parts rose sharply Thursday after the car parts retailer reported better-than-expected earnings and sales for the fiscal first quarter.

The company posted adjusted earnings of 77 cents a share for the quarter, up from a loss of 22 cents last year and well above analysts' consensus call of 43 cents, according to FactSet. Net sales totaled $2.61 billion, ahead of Wall Street's estimate of $2.57 billion. Comparable-store sales rose 3.5% year over year.

Advance Auto Parts stock jumped 8.5% in premarket trading. Shares have surged 30% this year, recovering from a rough few years since the pandemic-era auto boom. The stock tumbled double digits each year from 2022 through 2025.

"2026 is off to a solid start and we remain on track to execute our strategic priorities for the year," said CEO Shane O'Kelly in a statement. Advance Auto Parts reaffirmed its guidance for the fiscal year of 1% to 2% comparable-store sales growth.

Larger rivals AutoZone and O'Reilly Automotive were flat and down 0.8%, respectively, in premarket trading.
