Urban Outfitters logged higher sales in its latest quarter as each of its segments posted growth, with particularly strong gains for its wholesale and subscription businesses.

The apparel retailer on Wednesday posted a profit of $115.7 million, or $1.30 a share, compared with $108.3 million, or $1.16 a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet expected earnings of $1.14 a share.

Revenue climbed 11% to $1.48 billion, compared with analyst estimates of $1.46 billion.

By segment, retail sales rose 8%, to $1.22 billion, boosted by same-store sales growth across Free People, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie. Subscription revenue--which includes Nuuly, the company's apparel subscription rental service--climbed 35%. Wholesale revenue increased 25%.

Chief Executive Richard Hayne said the results marked record first-quarter sales and earnings.

"Our customers remain engaged and are responding to compelling fashion trends, giving us confidence in URBN's continued success," Hayne said.
