Natera (NTRA) said Tuesday that it has upgraded its Panorama non-invasive prenatal test using SNP-informed deep sequencing to improve accuracy in samples with low fetal fraction.

The genetic testing company said low fetal fraction has been a limitation in some existing prenatal screening methods.

Fetal fraction is the proportion of placental DNA in a pregnant patient's blood that can affect test reliability, the company said.

In a study of 3,323 patients, Natera said the updated test showed strong detection rates for chromosomal abnormalities and reduced the no-call rate to 0.5%, allowing more patients to get results from a single blood draw.

Shares of the company were up 3% in recent Tuesday premarket activity.
