Ferrari Shares Fall After Electric-Vehicle Debut

Ferrari shares fell Tuesday after the Italian luxury sports-car maker launched its first-ever electric vehicle.

Shares were 6.2% lower in early European trade.

The EV, known as the Luce, was designed in collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive and comes with a starting price tag of 550,000 euros ($640,000).

Analysts at Berenberg said in a note ahead of the launch that a persistent concern has been whether the Luce would resonate with Ferrari's core loyalist base, but noted that investor expectations for the car's success were low.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Tom Narayan has previously said that he expects Ferrari to see low EV volumes as it targets incrementally new customers, such as buyers in the Nordics and California, and potentially longer term in China.
