Clorox Chief Executive Officer Linda Rendle is stepping down for health reasons after more than 20 years at the company.

The company said it will begin a comprehensive CEO search process, during which time Rendle will remain at the helm of the company.

Rendle first joined the company in 2003 as a senior sales analyst, rising through the ranks until becoming CEO in 2020.

"I believe now is the right time to begin working toward a leadership transition so I can focus more fully on my health and family once a successor is appointed," said Rendle, who is also board chair.

Before joining Clorox, Rendle worked for Procter & Gamble, where she held several positions in sales management. She graduated from Harvard in 2000.

Rendle "has helped make the company stronger, more agile and better positioned for the future," said Matthew Shattock, lead independent director of the board. "Linda has modernized our digital and operational foundation, sharpened the portfolio toward faster-growing health and hygiene categories, and accelerated innovation while continuing to invest in our brands, people and growth."

Last month, Clorox cut its full-year earnings guidance, citing the impact of transaction costs from acquiring Purell-maker Gojo, coupled with long-term investments.
