OPAL Fuels (OPAL) and GFL Environmental (GFL) said Wednesday that construction is advancing on two renewable natural gas (RNG) facilities at the Stones Throw Landfill in Alabama and the Grady Road Landfill in Georgia.

The jointly owned projects have a combined design capacity of nearly 2 million MMBTU and are expected to produce enough RNG to fuel about 800 Class 8 heavy-duty trucks, the companies said.

OPAL Fuels will market and distribute all output through its RNG/CNG fueling network, supporting growing demand from fleets seeking alternatives to diesel, they added.

The facilities will capture landfill methane and convert it into RNG, a lower-carbon transportation fuel, as adoption of natural gas-powered trucking continues to rise, the companies said.

Shares of OPAL Fuels were 4.7% higher in premarket trading, while GFL was up 0.3%
