Genscript Biotech (HKG:1548) defended its operations after renewed scrutiny from U.S. lawmakers over alleged national security concerns, the South China Morning Post reported Wednesday.

The company said it operates with transparency across its global markets and follows strict data security and intellectual property safeguards, according to the report.

The response came after two U.S. lawmakers reportedly sent a letter to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for updated information regarding GenScript and its affiliates.

The lawmakers had made a similar request last year, citing concerns about potential links to China's biotechnology ambitions.

Shares of the life sciences firm were up over 14% in Wednesday afternoon trade.
