Boeing (BA) is exploring plans to increase production of its 737 jet beyond its peak publicly stated 63 aircraft per month, The Air Current reported Thursday.
The report said the planemaker is assessing whether suppliers can support output of about 70 jets monthly, adding that the study is still in its early stages, and Boeing has not decided whether to move forward with the higher production rate.
A ramp-up to 70 aircraft per month would move Boeing closer to production levels targeted by rival Airbus for its A320neo family, goals the European manufacturer has repeatedly delayed amid supply-chain challenges, according to the report.
Boeing did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
