Sempra is developing new transmission projects in Texas after gaining endorsement from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.

The San Diego-based energy distributor said Wednesday that the sites will serve the southern Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Together with several other projects in the area that were endorsed in April, the developments are expected to require new investment of more than $7 billion.

The projects will support about 16 gigawatts of new electric demand when placed in service, which is scheduled to happen between 2026 and 2034.

ERCOT, the state's electric power system operator, approved a system-wide approach to sequence large-load interconnection requests. The process is aimed at addressing increasing demand for energy.
