StepStone Group (STEP) was Smart Insider's stock pick of the week after Head of Strategy Michael McCabe bought $5 million in shares at $41.85 apiece on June 11, increasing his holding by 28%.
McCabe's latest purchase reversed a $12.7 million share sale made in December 2025, narrowly avoiding a short-swing profit rule violation, Smart Insider said in a Tuesday note.
The firm said McCabe previously bought $1.7 million of stock at $21.47 per share in May 2023 and $2.2 million at $23.31 per share the following month, according to Smart Insider.
Smart Insider said it is "encouraging" to see McCabe return to buying with a "sizeable purchase" at a price about 80% above previous acquisitions.
The firm previously ranked the stock +N, or notable & positive signal, in February 2026 following a "rare" purchase by non-executive Steven Mitchell, according to the note.
Smart Insider ranked StepStone Group +1, indicating a strong positive signal.
