The iconic Times Square Ball that drops each New Year's Eve is set to instead rise Friday after market-close to mark SpaceX's historic offering, people familiar with the matter said.

The ball is expected to be lit in orangish-red hues in a reference to Elon Musk's decades-long goal of sending people to Mars, one of the people said.
