Crinetics Pharmaceuticals' (CRNX) investigational drug atumelnant lowered hormone, or androgen, levels and allowed adults with congenital adrenal hyperplasia to safely reduce their steroid medication doses in a phase 2 trial, the company said on Sunday.

Data from a separate phase 1b/2a trial showed the drug also rapidly lowered cortisol levels in patients with ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome.

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is a genetic disorder, while Cushing's syndrome is typically caused by hormone-secreting tumors. Still, both conditions cause the body to produce too much of certain hormones, causing major physiological disruptions and damage.

Based on the results of the trial the company presented on Sunday, the company will advance atumelnant into late-phase clinical development, it said.
