President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday directing federal agencies to strengthen cybersecurity by adopting encryption that can withstand attacks from future quantum computers.
The order requires agencies to transition high-value and high-impact systems to post-quantum cryptography by the end of 2030 for key establishment and by the end of 2031 for digital signatures.
It also calls for new federal contractor requirements and guidance for critical infrastructure operators to support the shift to quantum-resistant security standards.
