Merck & Co. said a late-stage study of its autoimmune drug candidate tulisokibart in ulcerative colitis hit its key goals.

Merck on Monday said the Phase 3 induction-only study met its primary endpoint of clinical remission at week 12, as well as key secondary endpoints in patients with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, one of the most common types of inflammatory bowel disease.

The Rahway, N.J., drugmaker said the results reinforce the potential of tulisokibart, which was designed to help address immuno-fibrosis, a key driver of disease progression in inflammatory bowel disease and other immune-mediated inflammatory conditions.

Merck is currently studying tulisokibart in seven disease indications.
