PowerBank landed its first project for the U.S. federal government, a $2.95 million contract for a covered-parking canopy solar-power system that will provide electric-vehicle charging for the Armed Forces Reserve Center Farmingdale in New York.

The Toronto-based solar and battery energy storage company said its U.S. subsidiary was awarded the contract by the Defense Department and Department of the Army to build a photovoltaic array, electric vehicle chargers and associated infrastructure.

The AFRC Farmingdale facility serves the Army Reserve, the Naval Reserve, the Marine Corps Reserve, and the New York National Guard.

PowerBank said it has received a notice to proceed under the contract, and will begin with the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.

The federal contract follows recent state-level contracts awarded to PowerBank's Abundant Solar Power unit with the New York Department of Military and Naval Affairs for the construction of several ground-mounted and rooftop solar projects and battery energy storage systems.
