A pilot landing a passenger plane at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday morning reported hitting a drone, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The pilot of JetBlue Airways Flight 948 reported that the incident occurred at approximately 3,000 feet altitude on its final approach, the FAA said. The plane landed safely around 7:15 a.m. ET and no damage was immediately reported, according to the FAA.

"We collided with a drone back there in the turn," a pilot on the flight told air-traffic control while on approach to JFK, according to audio provided by the app ATC. "It hit us right, uh, right above the cockpit."

JetBlue said the crew reported a "possible drone encounter" before the flight landed without incident.

"The plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection, which found no damage or evidence of a collision," the airline said.

The plane left Las Vegas around midnight Sunday, according to records available on flight-data tracking site FlightAware. Further details on the reported drone weren't immediately available. The FAA said it would continue to investigate.
